Full Size Lungs and Other Good News

Today was a good day. Jill had her upper GI test done this morning. She did really well. She looked so cute before the test began. We had to change her into a baby-size hospital gown and she had to lie down on an adult-size observation table. I was worried that she wasn’t going to drink her bottle of barium. We were told that if she didn’t drink it they would have to put a NG-tube (temporary feeding tube) in through her nose. But she drank the amount that was needed. We were told right after the test that she doesn’t have another hernia. Praise God! I was dreading the idea of another major surgery. Also, the placement of her stomach and other anatomy looks normal. And Bryan and I were also amazed to see how her left lung has grown and filled up her chest cavity! It was a truly incredible/miraculous sight to us. The only negative issue was her acid reflux problem. As soon as she started sucking on her pacifier you could see the barium move right back up her esophagus.

After the testing was over, we headed to our next appointment that was with the gastroenterologist. Jill’s three stool samples that I submitted today were all negative for blood which was another good sign. I guess we are going to try solids. The specialist wants us to only introduce one new food every week or two. He also gave us a few more cans of the special formula. We just found out yesterday that the shipment of formula from the local medical supply place won’t be in until October 9th. But with the free samples we got today, we have enough until that shipment arrives. We are still waiting to hear if our insurance will cover the prescription formula. Each can costs almost $40 and it is only a 3-day supply.

It's nice to read some good news. The day was getting lopsided with bad news for a while.
